Ijen is a complex of active volcanos, 2,799 metres above the sea level high. It consists of many craters, one of which has a sour sulphuric volcanic lake in turquoise color.

Bromo is an active volcano, 2,329 metres above the sea level high, with the  crater around 700 meters wide, situated inside a huge Tengger caldera. It is the youngest of the five volcanoes located within it, and it is 133 metres higher than its level.

Join us for the volcano trekking excursion.

Day 1: We set off from Bali to Java

At 7 or 8 o'clock in the morning we leave the hotel in Bali, and travel westbound towards the island of Java, driving by the sea and along rice fields. Then we get into a ferry which takes us to Java; we have lunch in Banyuangi.

Upon arrival to Java, we set off for a car trip up to the Ijen plateau. The narrow and steap road leads through a rainforest. Then we reach the plateau, where among the natural plants, coffee and strawberries are grown. We visit cofee plantation. Afterwards, we highly recommend a glass of strawberry juice. Then it's already evening - time to take some rest!

Day 2: Ijen Crater

By dusk we set off towards the Ijen crater. The walk up the hill, through a forest, lasts about an hour - then we descend towards the volcano crater. The surroundings are wild and strange. Inside the crater, there is a beautiful sulphur lake with hot green waters. We are surrounded by sulphur fumes, among which workers are extracting sulphur blocks with basic methods, and then carry them up the crater and take to the selling point. This profession had been recognized by the French Planete television channel as one of the worst ones in the world! In intertwined baskets each time they carry about 80 kilogrames of sulphur. Twice a day they descend to hell. Hot sulphur has a beautiful red color, which contrasts with the green lake. Meanwhile, we feel like we're in a different world. From the crater edge we can admire a beautiful view on other volcanoes. Having returned to the car, we set off towards the Bromo volcano. We have a dinner at Bondowoso, and then arrive to Bromo for the sunset, which we admire from a huge caldera edge.

Day 3: Bromo Crater

We wake up around 3 AM, and then walk or drive to the mountain located just by the Bromo and Semeru volcanoes.

The spectacular view of sunrise is accompanied by an unusual phenomenon - above the Semeru volcano, which is the biggest mountain in Java and a saint place for Hindu believers the fumes keep bursting out. It might be that one day a huge eruption will take place here.

After the sunrise we hike to the Bromo edge, out of which sulphur is bursting out. It is possible to take a horse ride inside the huge caldera. Then we return to the hotel, and drive towards east. We spend the night in a Kalibaru resort. A bath in a swimming pool, and some rest in the evening will be perfect after the volcano trip.

Day 4: Return to Bali

We leave the hotel in the morning, and then head back to Bali.
